Welcome to the Sonic 1 Mega CD Archive!

Here you'll find info about the lost Sonic 1 Mega CD port, as well as screenshots and more.

Quick Info to give you about the port:

Originally Sonic CD was going to be a port of Sonic The Hedgehog to the Mega CD / Sega CD,

but with some nice little tweaks, as well as CD Quality audio, mainly because sega wanted to show the power of the

Mega CD. Slowly it would become Sonic CD though, with the idea of the Sonic 1 port being thrown out the window.

From what i've heared, the CD itself didn't have the CD Quality audio in the prototype, as they were trying to

find what would fit for it.

Possible images of the port are below:

Above is a image from a unknown magazine from the 90's showcasing the build.

Differences from the OG S1 and CD are: -Falling sprite for Sonic. -Different pallete for Sonic(?). -GHZ Background has no waterfall. (maybe its just out of sight where we can't see it?)

8/3/2024 Update: So theres a few things I need to talk about here.

Note that all info for the update post is from a employee that worked on the port.

First, apparently after it was turned into Sonic CD, a unknown employee started working on it for some reason (and got fired because of it),

and added a few things to the game, such as:

-Edited Sonic Sprites -Material from Sonic 1 and CD Prototypes, and more.

Second, the employee managed to give me a few sprites from the CD itself,

When I asked him why he can't just send the CD to me, he said:

"Sega will attempt to strike down what we're doing if I do."

Here are those sprites:

Thats all I can really show for now, but I will be uploading some videos on a YouTube account I created.

See you guys soon.
